Biog

Midfielder Evander Sno signed for Celtic in the summer of 2006 for £250,000 from Dutch giants Feyenord where he had failed to establish himself.

The 19-year-old was seen as a more long term signing but would make a favourable impression in his first season at Parkhead, starting some vital league and Champions League clashes.

Indeed his performances were such that he was called up for the Dutch squad for a friendly with England although ultimately he would not feature. Strong, technically sound, assured in possession and with good vision, Sno looked like he could develop into a real talent.

However the player suffered from a loss of form and confidence at the start of the 2007/08 campaign and his starting appearances were limited during the remainder of the campaign. He was not helped by an impatient section of the support who would greet any slight error with an audible groan, seemingly forgetting Sno’s relative youthfulness. Add in the vocal criticism he used to get for even the minor error (partly due to frustration from the support) and its hard to see how he was going to ever get better.

His dip in form was however noticeable, with Sno at times guilty of a lack of awareness. He also seemed to struggle with the frantic pace and more uncultured elements of the Scottish game and as a consequence was prone to making unforced errors. However, the Scottish game isn't the main fault, and his deficiencies were there to see for all, and he could have pushed better in games to make others eat their words.

Although he would collect his second league title in two seasons it was not a great personal campaign for the Dutchman as his progress unquestionably stalled. During the season though Sno, despite his failings, did show glimpses of a genuine midfield talent and hope remained that he could still prove to be a significant success at Parkhead.

However it wasn't to be, and his deficiencies were never seemed to be going from his game. Too slow and pensive on the ball sometimes, a real handicap in the highly accelerated world of Scottish football, and he became too easy a target for the boo boys in the support. Still he managed a place on the bench coming on in various games, or even started matches including important games like AC Milan away in the Champs league in the KO stage (showing that at least the management had some faith in him).

In Aug 2008, Sno signed a 3 year deal with Ajax. A clean break was for the best, he wasn't expected any longer to make it at Celtic and Ajax was a good fit for Sno in some ways. However, even there things hadn't been working out as well as hoped. A fair player but maybe not cut out for the top and when van Basten was released as manager of Ajax it was clear Sno's time at the Amsterdam Arena was up as well. At the start of the 2009-10 season he was told that he was free to leave. He trialled with Hamburg but was not offered a contract

In late August 2009 he went on loan to Bristol City where he tied up again with ex-Celt Paul Hartley.
